Description
This listing is for a block of four poster stamps issued to commemorate the use of the atomic bomb in World War 2. The first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb, the Enola Gay, was piloted by Colonel Paul W. Tibbets and targeted Hiroshima, Japan. A second bomb was later dropped on Nagasaki. This led to the surrender of Japan to the Allies in World War 2 in August of 1945. The stamp is based on a design created for use by the United States Postal Service, but the USPS stamp was rescinded after protests from the Japanese government in 1994. The original non-issued rescinded stamp design and the stamp that replaced it are shown in the second scan for informational purposes only and are NOT included. The "History Denied" card is included as a FREE BONUS. These stamps are cinderella stamps in mint, never hinged self-adhesive condition and were not issued by the USPS and are not valid for postage. This block features the less commonly seen, larger sized variety of this stamp. This block would make an interesting addition to any collection of World War 2 memorabilia, United States or Japanese history or cinderella stamps or oddities.
