***NOTE- MOST PRINTS ARE MUCH SHARPER, WITH BETTER COLOR & SATURATION. WE MAY BE HAVING AN EBAY CAUSED ERROR: POOR SHARPNESS, COLOR, & RESOLUTION PROBLEMS WITH THE PHOTO YOU SEE HERE. WE ARE WAITING FOR EBAY TO FIX THIS***This is a quality glossy lithograph with UV coating from an original black and white photograph that was custom printed by long time Hawaii professional surfing photographer Bill Romerhaus in a darkroom from the original negative, cropped, and mounted on a single 8x10 inch backing board (see photo, **please note: the black border is part of the print and not a mat board cutout). It has with caption and photography information on the back of of surfers on the beach watching 10 foot surf at the infamous 'Banzai Pipeline' at Ehukai Beach, north Oahu, Hawaii. It is initialed 'BR' on the front of the photo, and is shrink wrapped to protect it from damage and has preservation tips included in the label on the back. It was published as a cover shot in a local newspaper and in several magazines and featured in our twice award winning book Haleiwa: A Pictorial History" available at our e-Bay store. This would make a great birthday or holiday gift for someone who has visited here, surfed on north shore, or likes the ocean. They are popular reasonably priced decorations for restaurants, offices, homes, or stores where people can see them.
Pipeline is one of the most infamous and dangerous waves in the world. It breaks near the beach (Ehukai Beach) in only several feet of water over a jagged coral reef and rocky bottom. Its heavily cascading wave forms a cylindrical chamber called the 'tube'' or the 'barrel'. The aim of surfers here is to ride inside this tubular chamber sometimes appearing to completely disappear in the curl and make it out again without 'wiping out'. This is a goal of all surfers at this and many other North Shore breaks. The waves here range from 2-4 feet high in the summer months to waves as large as 20 feet high during the winter months generated (November- March) from far distant north Pacific Ocean storms. Pipeline sometimes breaks so hard that you can feel the vibrations on the beach thru sand 20 feet deep! There are numerous professional surfing competitions held here each winter including the Pipeline Masters which is the third contest in the Triple Crown of Surfing. This photo was published in several magazines.
Our original photos are very popular and affordable to local people and tourists visiting Hawaii, as well as people who have never visited Hawaii. We're proud to mention that many of our photos were used as background artwork in the new CBS television network series "Hawaii 5-0". Prices are less than you would pay retail at a gallery or custom photo lab for a hand printed and mounted silver halide black and white print and production costs are lower than most folks so we want to offer affordable quality art for people who might not otherwise be able to afford it. With proper care this print should last 100 years. Larger unmounted prints are also available, please inquire.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE: e-Bay's transfer process and the computer screen makes the photo look contrasty and slightly darker or lighter, depending on your monitor brightness and contrast settings. This photo is printed on glossy surface paper. We do however try to crop and correct them so they look best. It is printed on 8x10 inch paper and cropped to size. **When it is cropped and attached to the single mat 8x10" backing board you will be able to see the backing board around the borders of the print. It makes the print look like there is a margin at the edges of the photo which you can see here.
Prints are permanently mounted to the acid free backing board using archival photo adhesive and cannot easily be removed from the backing board without damaging the photo. An 11x14 inch frame (or larger) with a custom cut mat from a frame shop or art store is the suggested way to display this photo. If you want to use a larger frame and mat and you can't find an experienced framer who knows how to do it, contact us and we can provide information explaining how it can be done. This is recommended for best visual and artistic impact in displaying this photo, although many people are happy using a standard 8x10" frame and displaying the image as is. We also have a few 11x14's unmounted of this print also, please inquire. In the near future real black and white silver halide photographic paper will cease to be available as manufacturers phase out production because of digital photography and we won't be printing these by hand in the darkroom forever. We want to make sure you know exactly what you are buying so we hope our thorough description of these photos will answer all your questions before you purchase.
